Kaveri Gopalakrishnan is an independent illustrator and comics-maker based in Bangalore, India. She graduated in 2012 in Animation Film Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. Kaveri works as an illustrator for print publications (magazines, book covers, editorial), with clients such as Scholastic, Rupa Publications, and Penguin India. Other clients include GE Healthcare, Chumbak, Wildlife Trust India, Brainwave Magazine, Duckbill Books and Studio Kokaachi (formerly Mantaray Comics). Following an Illustration residency at the School of Visual Arts, New York (August 2014), she shifted largely to making graphic narratives. Her short graphic story ‘Before You Step Out’ (Jan 2015) was featured in The Hindu BLink’s anniversary issue ‘15 Writers to Watch Out for in 2015’. Her recent graphic story ‘Basic Space’ was published in the ‘Drawing the Line’ anthology by Zubaan Books (March 2015), and reaches North America soon under Ad Astra Comix. The latest ongoing comic project is UrbanLore Comics (b. July 2015), a collaborative webcomic series about urban stories and observations in India. Kaveri regularly micro-blogs while traveling between city and countryside; making short, personal comics on themes of our relationship with nature, self-understanding and public spaces.
